“The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature” (Luke 8:14 NIV).
*Raises Right Hand*… I AM GUILTY!! My life has been a constant rotation of hearing blockers. Focused solely on my own happiness and agenda. True I have always wanted to help others because I am passionate about loving on people, but my main focus was success, beauty and wealth. So that I wouldn’t have to be worried about basic problems like barely paying bills, an annoying supervisor, failing relationships, or just wasting another day in a job that doesn’t fulfill me at all. This can’t be life. It just can’t be.
So as I have been working to evolve as a woman after God’s own heart, my focus started to change. I now wanted to be led and not go take off on my plan, it fails and then I pray about it and mad at God because it didn’t work. However being led means we must be willing to listen and obey.
Well this particular verse definitely highlights some hearing blockers.
- The verse from the book of Luke mentions worry. Matthew 6:27, Can any one of you by worry add a single hour to your life?
Not at all. In fact worry leads to stress and stress leads to all sorts of physical, mental, spiritual and emotional complications. Worry will definitely block out what God may be trying to get to you.
- Riches/Money Matter: The second thing the verse mentions is money. Whether you’re trying to maintain your living expenses, get out of debt, build your savings, start a new venture, money matter will have you nuttier than squirrel poop. How can you focus on getting a word when your mind is really on how will you pay your rent.
- Pleasures: that could be anything that you have giving the spot that should rightfully be God’s. Is it your man/woman, your goals, your social media followers/likes, clothing, cars, accessories. There’s nothing wrong with having those things are desiring them, but if the price for having them is your relationship with God then it’ll fall short when your life is in shambles and you now need your savior. You made those temporary pleasures your God.
God wants you to be prosperous in your business, your family, your friendships, your relationship with God and with others, and your health.
3 John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
God wants you to seek him first and keep him first. Then all things will be added.
From my heart to yours, <3
