One thing I like to do is read and research a lot of things. Some topics may seem so basic and like common knowledge to others. For me, on this spiritual walk I like to ask questions and not just assume I know the answers based off of what I’ve seen by others.
Let me explain a bit more. Everyday I’m learning more and more about how to truly surrender and serve God. I want the words of my mouth, the state of my heart, my prayers and my worship to always find favor in God’s sight.
So one day I decided to research the differences and similarities of praise and worship. See I don’t know about you, but I’m trying to manifest some things and break free from other things and I want my praise and worship to be done right. So I googled it. As usual being the person that I am I don’t like to assume everyone is a veteran/pro at praise or fully knows what it is. So I decided to share the article for fellow believers to read and hopefully they’d too get something from them like I did.
Well shortly after I tweeted the article a man decided to tweet me a snarky remark “that’s a quite a sexy photo for someone tweeting about worship”. It immediately hurt my feelings and the spirit of offense almost set in because once again someone was using my appearance and career to judge me. (I have another blog post about a former coworker who made a comment that “I don’t look like a church on a Wednesday girl”.. find that post here http://fillhealrestore.com/fill-me-up/ ), but I digress.
Yes, I model from time to time. Yes, some of my photos may be seen as sexy, but does that mean that I’m now not qualified to seek and serve the Heavenly Father? Does my wardrobe exclude me from being able to have a hunger for God and to know him or worship him?
One of my favorite actresses is the gorgeous Meagan Good. When I’m faced with these moments of unnecessary attacks it reminds me of how so many hurled insults and hurtful remarks toward her because she’s undeniably beautiful and has a sexy style. Which to many made her somehow unworthy to be with a man of God. The most surprising was per usual this behavior seemed to be coming from the body of believers in Christ Jesus. Being messy like this can allow you to put yourself in the position to miss the message because you’re too focused on judging the messenger.
God is a God of love. If you take a glance through the bible God used many of the most unlikely individuals as a vessel to complete his will.
Paul was first known as Saul who persecuted Christians. Paul later became an apostle that wrote many books of the New Testament. God used him in such a mighty way.
Your blessing, lesson, prophet, or minister won’t necessarily appear in the perfect package that you’ve created in your mind on what someone serving God should look like.
God may use a child to bless a crowd like he did with the little boy who had five loaves of bread and two fish to feed a crowd of 5000. While many may have shunned the child and turned him away because his two little fish didn’t seem like much. God saw a willing and generous hard and through him showed his power.
Or what about David? David was a skinny little shepherd boy. He tended his fathers flock of probably sheep. Many underestimated David. David had a heart to please God and radical faith. He was able to defeat Goliath and was always slaying in battles. David the little shepherd boy was eventually anointed as king over Israel.
Moses was called to lead the people out of Egypt and to speak to the pharaoh on their behalf and Moses also delivered the Ten Commandments. Moses himself felt unworthy because he stuttered, but God used him anyway.
I can’t neglect to mention how God used Rahab who was a prostitute. She hid the spies that was sent to check out Jericho by Joshua. God had chose Joshua to lead the people into the promised land after Moses had died.
Don’t forget Abraham was super old and Noah got drunk. He still used them in ways beyond what many narrow and natural minds could fathom.
God uses those with a willing heart and genuine spirit. David had a heart fired up for God and radical. So God used him in ways that were unfathomable to show the power of God.
Don’t get so caught in judgement that you may possibly miss the person sent to save your life or change your life.
God is the judge. Allow him to do his job and others to do their assignment. If you don’t want to help then at least don’t hinder.
And to those simply doing their best to follow after God’s heart and be who he’s called you to be, stay encouraged, stay in the word, stay on purpose and stay in faith. Greater is he that is in you than he that’s in the world. Do your part and let God do the rest.
1 Samuel 16:7New International Version (NIV)
7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lordlooks at the heart.”
My packaging may not be perfect, but my heart is pure, my spirit is willing, and my Heavenly Father chose me.
Don’t allow someone else’s disbelief to deter you from your destiny.
I may be an imperfect package, but God is using me perfectly!
From my heart to yours,
